You may have to repent to yourself. Apologize to yourself about the actions you have taken against yourself. Repent, turn in the opposite direction towards what you know is best for you. It may seem hard but that is because you have become accustomed to living the life of the slave to it (the thing that is harming you) and not breaking free from it.
Have you heard the story of the hound dog on the porch who just sits there howling in pain as the owner of the dog sits in the rocking chair, rocking back and forth. A little boy walks by and says "Sir, why is your dog crying out so loudly? Is he injured?" The owner says "Oh his tail is under the rocker of my chair and every time I rock he cries. I've told him to move but he just won't."
The little boy responds "You should make him move." The owner "I have but when I come back out here to rock he just slides his tail right back under the rocker and howls. This dog has become accustomed to suffering." The thing that is harming him and not breaking free from it.
